JDRF event on track to raise funds

Campout for Diabetes goes back in time at the Railway and Forestry Museum to celebrate 100 year milestone
The Prince George division of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) hosted a fundraising event, Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum to commemorate 100 years since the first successful injection of insulin. Although insulin is a treatment for diabetes, it is by no means a cure. And the goal of the fundraiser was to generate awareness and funds to further research in hopes of one day finding a cure.
Megan Winia, coordinated the Cure Diabetes Campout and activities that a had music from DJ Tyecon Tunes; the UHNBC Traditional Drummers; rides on the Cottonwood Railway; and food from The Gosling who offered a variety of great menu items from which a portion of every sale was donated to Juvenile Diabetes. Finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes is a cause close to Winia as she has experienced the loss of a cherished friend to the disease. For the past decade she has been actively working alongside JDRF in honour of his memory. Megan has decided to camp out this past weekend at the museum in solidarity with a national fundraiser where individuals from across the country will be camping for 100 hours on top of 40 ft flag poles to raise donations. Simultaneous events took place in various cities across Canada commencing on the same weekend and continuing through the coming week.

The fundraising goal of $7000 will be matched by Temerity Foundation in Toronto.
